I Wrote a Book!

Hi there. How are you?

You may have noticed I’ve been incognito lately. I was writing a book!

In the spring of 2024, I was approached by an art book publisher to write a how-to book about ballpoint drawing.

After 4 months of intense work, my book is finished and has been submitted to the publisher! I’m exhausted, but other than edits, my work is done for now. (Until it’s time to promote it.)

I spent every weekend of the summer up in my studio, churning out art, photos, and words. I don’t recommend writing a book on a tight deadline while working full time. Forcing yourself to make creative work whether you’re up for it or not is an incredible feat of strength. But, I DID IT!

Me & My Ballpoint Pen

That’s the title. I didn’t choose it and lobbied to change it. (That’s a story for another day.) Now I’m just trying to embrace it.

I spill my guts about my ballpoint drawing practice in this book. There are 19 step-by-step projects, featuring both abstract and realistic subjects including my signature chairs and classic abstract compositions. There are even some brand new ideas/techniques that I developed exclusively for the book.

I wrote a whole chapter about “Abstract Inspiration”. In this project, I used shadow to start the composition.

Book Coming Spring of 2025

I’m incredibly proud of this book and excited for it to see the light of day! If you’d like to be alerted when pre-orders are available, please join my email list. I’m planning to create a video tutorial to go along with one of the projects in the book as a pre-order bonus.

That’s All for Now

Now that I have regained my life, I plan to show up more regularly on my blog. I’ve got some cool things to share with you in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, I leave you with Richard, my ever present studio assistant. He was usually nearby when I was writing this book, many times right on the work table with me. He even makes a few appearances in the book!

Ciao, Jen
