Need a Creative Boost? Check out these Online Art Educators

Hi there. How are you?

I’m in the midst of a creative rebuild. For the last few weeks, I’ve focused on daily drawing and I’m making some progress. Ideas are bubbling to the surface and feel like I’m on my way!

My other goal during this rebuild is to learn something new. When I am in a rut, I seek out education. Learning helps me to build momentum and clarity in my art practice.

I’m currently enrolled in the Blogging Today online course with Holly Becker of Decor8. I’m 2 weeks into this 6 week class and I’m already so energized and inspired! (I’ll tell you all about it in an upcoming post.)

Perhaps you’re going through a rebuild yourself or just want to learn something new…Today’s email is especially for you!

There are a wealth of artists who are sharing their knowledge online for free or cheap. Here are some of my favorites that I suspect you might like too.

Some of my Favorite Online Art Instructors

  • Helen Wells - shares free weekly process videos on her blog. Sign up for her mailing list to get them delivered to you directly. Helen explores collage, drawing, and painting.

  • Laura Horn - has some free art challenges and a robust YouTube channel filled with tutorials. She focuses on mixed media and has a large collection of affordable online art classes.

  • Amy of Mindful Art Studio - hosts free weekly live slow drawing workshops. She’s all about pattern drawing and working small. So up my alley!

  • Sara Schroeder - focuses on art journaling and mark making. She hosts a monthly creative membership where she shares so much of her process with up close, long form videos and live drawing sessions.

  • Roben Marie - is a mixed media artist with both free and paid courses available. She just launched a new membership that gives you access to all of her online courses.

  • Bonnie Christine - is a surface pattern designer and creative business mentor. She offers free surface pattern design training and has a fabulous podcast.

  • Ann Wood - is a wonderfully creative sewer and crafter. She shares a wealth of free patterns and tutorials on her website.

I’ve been inspired and have learned from all of these artists. The work they do is different than my own and I don’t see them as competitors, but instead colleagues.

Do you have a favorite online art mentor?

Do tell! I hope to expand upon this list and would really like to add some POC and male artists to the roster.

Looking for something in person?

I encourage you to check out your local public library, museums, park districts, and community colleges. There are a wealth of art education resources out there if you look!

That’s all for now.

I’m making a concerted effort to share on my blog more regularly. If there is something you’d like for me to write about, leave me a comment! I’m here to help inspire you on your own creative journey.

Ciao, Jen
