The Sunday Spread: January 13, 2024

Hi there. How are you?

Welcome back to the Sunday Spread. Each week I give you a glimpse into my sketchbook and drawing practice. Posted most Sundays.

I wasn’t called to my sketchbook much this week, so just one sketch to share. I’m still giving myself lots of grace, not pressure to make unless I want to. Right now, I’ve been more called to read, write, and think than draw.

1/12/24: Snow Day Sketch

Winter finally came to Wisconsin in earnest this week. We had two large storms which dumped a good foot of snow on us. We closed our shop on Friday (I’m a manager in a large format printing business), so I got to stay home! After doing home stuff all morning and afternoon, I finally felt called to the couch.

I basically just let my hand move about the page, my familiar loops and floral forms emerged. I like the wreath look about this, along with the play of the organic forms against the straight lines.

Scribbly Scratch

It’s not super polished…A few years ago, I probably wouldn’t have posted something this rough, but now I embrace it. I’m totally fine with this “scribbly scratch”. The imperfections add interest and personality.

That’s All for Now

I leave you with Richard, being Richard. He’s likes to be in middle of everything, including the jigsaw puzzle. He even “helped” us sort pieces by pushing them off the table. Good thing he’s so cute!

Ciao, Jen
