The Sunday Spread: November 19, 2023

Hi there. How are you?

Welcome back to the Sunday Spread. Each week I give you a glimpse into my sketchbook and drawing practice. Posted most Sundays.

I don’t feel like I spent much time drawing this week, but I still managed to finish 3 sketchbook spreads.

Sunday 11/12

This isn’t as polished as I’d liked. I was having pen issues. The ink in my beloved Parker pen wasn’t flowing very smoothly. Perhaps it’s time to change out the cartridge. I do like the play of the straight lines with the organic forms.

11/15: Marker & Ballpoint

I intended for this drawing to be just ballpoint, but at the last minute, I added the rose colored marker. I’m not sure about the marker. I like the color, but not the application. Maybe it really is time to revisit watercolor or acrylic ink again?

11/18: More with the Flair Pens

Pattern drawing with Paper Mate Flair pens might just be here to stay. After an especially taxing week, this just poured out of me on Saturday night while I sat on the couch. I love the squeak of the pen on the paper and I can’t get enough of this repetitive pattern drawing. I had fun working with a triadic color scheme, that I don’t often gravitate towards.

That’s All For Now

I leave you with my favorite Richard photo of the week, in his spot on the couch, always with his paw on my leg. I’m pretty sure I was drawing the flair pen spread above when I took this.

Times like this almost make up for the hour he spent screaming the songs of his people, while breaking into the treat cabinet while I was trying read last night. Almost.

Ciao, Jen
